We encourage the quality and freshness of our ingredients to claim center stage.
Main
We're happy to devote some of our space to feature products made by local makers, beekeepers and artists. Our shelves introduce you to small producers of jams and pickles, honey harvested from various San Francisco neighborhoods and makers of chocolate treats. We offer our largest café wall as an exhibition space for local artists. Recently, we started renting space to a local bread baker as a platform for him to develop his young business. You can find Josey Baker Bread at Mission Pie Wednesday and Thursday evenings. If you are interested in having Mission Pie sell your product or show your art, please contact us at eatpie@missionpie.com. Sorry, we are not accepting applications for kitchen rental at this time.
Salads
Our savory chef takes great pleasure in composing nourishing, hearty salads based on California's extraordinary range of vegetable, grain and bean crops. We offer two salads daily as a light meal or a side dish and they change seasonally and frequently. Your winter salad draws nutrients from root vegetables, hearty greens, and whole grains, while spring and summer salads may delight with fresh asparagus, peas, tomatoes or summer squash. Mission Pie salads have a following and have inspired staff and customers to create their own fresh and tasty variations at home.
What's Hot: Lunch At Mission Pie!
Looking for a healthy and hearty lunch? Mission Pie has you covered! Come in and enjoy our variety of salads, pot pies, stews and other savory items! Mix and match between our savory galettes, potato tarts, quiche and salads for under $10!
Quiche and Tart
For a savory pie to feed a group, we make 9-inch quiche and tarts. Our quiche flavors range from the classic spinach and bacon to the more unusual roasted cauliflower and black olive. Free Range eggs, organic milk and cream and a light touch make the quiche light, velvety and delicious. Another French classic re-imagined as a pie is our Potato Gratin Tart. On any day a layer of braised fennel, wild mushrooms or even sautéed nettles may be combined with thinly sliced potatoes and melted cheese. Whole quiches and tarts feed 6-8 people and are $22. There is one vegetarian option daily.
Galettes & Small Things
One of our specialties is hand-held pastries called galettes. We typically make one sweet and two savory versions daily. Early in a crop's harvest, when the yield is low but the flavor superb, we enjoy highlighting it in a galette. A sweet galette may be a few slices of perfect Suncrest peaches, a sprinkle of sugar and a dot of butter. On the savory side, the galette might be a more refined composition, such as our house-made chutney with uncured ham galette. Occasionally, it's an opportunity to show our sense of humor like the spaghetti squash and meatball or the French onion soup galette. We figure: if it's good on a plate or in a bowl, it's great baked in a round of pie dough. Galettes are $5.50 each and are good for sharing or for a single hearty snack.
Sweet Pies Whole Or By the Slice
Our sweet menu is characterized by three things: Handmade pastry, fresh, ripe fruit, and a celebration of seasonality. Our all-butter crust is made in 65-pound batches and rolled entirely by hand. The flour we use is one-third white and two-thirds whole wheat pastry flour; the whole wheat flour is entirely California grown. We also make a vegan variation that is made with coconut and canola oils instead of butter. Using fresh fruit that is harvested for ripeness and flavor rather than long shelf-life enables us to keep the recipes simple a lot of fruit, a little sugar, seasoning, and thickener are all it takes to make our pies. Mission Pie customers celebrate spring with strawberry-rhubarb, enjoy a long summer full of berries and stone fruits, welcome fall with Pumpkin Pie, and sweeten their winters with apples, pears and citrus. Our bakers start the day at 5:00 am and the full menu is available by 8:00 am. Whole pies are 9 inches, feed 6 to 8, and are $20 or $22. We also serve all of our pies by the slice for $3.50 to $4.00, with complementary Straus Family Creamery organic whipped cream. For an additional treat, you can add a scoop of Straus Organic Vanilla Bean ice cream for $1.50. Enjoy a slice here, at home, or enjoying your favorite view our favorite view is looking out at the café tables and seeing folks of all ages and backgrounds enjoying slices of pie alone or together.
Breakfast Treats
For the early morning crowd we offer scones and muffins to go with morning coffee or tea. We make a currant and a maple walnut scone in small, handmade batches every morning. We also make a carrot muffin which is both vegan and delicious, along with traditional blueberry, banana chocolate, or lemon poppy muffin. We're happy to accommodate breakfast pastry orders for larger groups just call a few days ahead to order.
Pot Pies
Our pot pies make a hearty meal for one for $7. Making pot pies gives us a way to exlore various cultural cuisines through local ingredients. In addition to our traditional chicken pot pie (made with Mary's Organic Chicken) you may find a vegan Moroccan lentil pot pie, a Niman Ranch beef tamale pie, or a ratatouille pot pie. Pot pies are enjoyed in our café or taken home for an easy supper.
Coffee and Tea
When looking for coffee and tea to serve with our pie we seek out companies whose interests and values match our own regarding sourcing and sustainability. We were glad to meet the folks at Taylor Maid Farms before we even opened Mission Pie. In addition to their commitment to roasting high quality coffee, this Sebastopol-based company has invested significantly in the economic and environmental sustainability of the growers that they work with. For tea drinkers, we source from three companies, Zhena's Gypsy Tea, Teatulia and Guayaki for teas and herbal blends. Sourcing from a range of companies enables us to offer a variety of loose leaf teas at an everyday price that pair well with our pie. Our coffees and teas are also available for bulk purchase for customers who prefer to have their coffee, tea or espresso drinks at home.
