Divide this puppy up into two "lighter" art days. OR option 2, hit up Starbucks on Michigan first to power yourself through the first half, then the museum cafe at lunch. Great little niblets.

Floor plan slightly confusing but collection of art was widespread and very impressive. Especially liked the Rodin sculptures.

Thought I was already back in Beijing when I saw this. The Impressionist Art and Fashion exhibition was brilliant. A great way to spend my last day in Chicago.

The new modern wing is a work of art unto itself. Be sure to ride the escalator from Millennium park to the roof cafe. The views of the "mile" are magnificent.

Do a collections highlights tour...definitely worth it. Plus don't try and check in food at the cloak room! Made the mistake of going to a farmer's market on the way to the museum.

Check out the Studio Gang Architecture exhibit (til Feb 24) incl the very cool solar paneled Carven Tower to be built by the Highline in NYC by 2015

The Art Institute has included among it's vast collection the Death Mask of Napoleon (1821), it's not always on display, but an interesting bit of history none the less.

Have you ever noticed how artifacts are mounted? AIC's preparation department makes gorgeous mounts that are almost invisible to the average guest. Take a look!
