Free design exhibits on the ground floor and daily 1,500kr tour of the building. Best deal is the 4th floor bar with a killer happy hour, from 5-7p.
Best hostel. Ever. Young, hip & pretty much self-contained (bar, restaurant, hair salon, laundry are all inside), and overlooking the water!! I'll never stay anywhere else in this city.
Definitely try the lobster bisque if you want a nice hot soup on a cold day. You can skip the whale kebab unless you like steak with a fishy taste.
They exchange currencies here, which is super helpful when the banks are closed on the weekend.
Iceland's only flea market, open on Saturdays and Sundays. Quite an interesting place! Look for authentic Icelandic wool sweaters cheaper here.
Absolutely amazing food: open-face sandwiches and daily hot food specials. They also serve Akvavit shots that locals typically enjoy with a beer.
You can buy tickets to the elevator at the church outside, at left hand side of the entrance. 600 ISK / ticket. The view of Reykjavik is amazing at the 8th floor.
When it gets cold out, come here for a hearty soup in bread bowl and a pint of Icelandic Gull beer.
There is usually a huge map of Iceland on the ground floor where you can walk around Iceland in 5 minutes.
Þingvellir is the place where I am drifting apart. One part of me goes west, and other goes east. (But don't worry, it happens very, very slowly. Much to slowly for humans to notice.)
Enjoy a fancy lunch at the visitor center bistro. They source all ingredients locally! (and the dining room is gorgeous.)
Not much here except for a great community thermal pool. Entrance is just 400kr for various hot tubs and a sauna.
Try the Tvíhleypa. A single espresso and a cappuccino, presented on a silver plate. It's a favorite.
Phenomenal tasting menu made with fresh ingredients from the restaurant's garden! If you're not up for the wine pairing, ask your waiter to choose a few wines by the glass. :)
