What is a face lift. As we age, gravity, sun exposure, & the stresses of daily life can be seen in our faces. Creases form between the nose & mouth, the jaw line grows slack & jowly & folds & fat deposits appear around the neck. A face lift can "set back the clock," improving visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, & re-draping the skin of your face & neck. A face lift can be done alone, or w/ other procedures such as a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping. How is the procedure performed? Most face lifts are performed under local anesthesia, combined w/ a sedative to make you drowsy. You'll be awake but relaxed, & your face will be insensitive to pain. A face lift usually takes several hours to complete. Incisions usually begin above the hairline at the temples, extend in a natural line in front of the ear (or just inside the cartilage at the front of the ear) , & continue behind the earlobe to the lower scalp. If the neck needs work, a small incision may also be made under the chin. In general, dr. bootstaylor will separate the skin from the fat & muscle below. Fat may be trimmed or suctioned from around the neck & chin to improve the contour. Dr. bootstaylor then tightens the underlying muscle & membrane, pulls the skin back, & removes the excess. Stitches secure the layers of tissue & close the incisions. How quickly will i heal? You should be up & about in a day or two, but plan on taking it easy for the first week after surgery. Be especially gentle w/ your face & hair, since your skin will be both tender & numb, & may not respond normally at first. Dr. bootstaylor will give you specific guidelines for gradually resuming your normal activities. They're likely to include these suggestions: avoid strenuous activity, including sex & heavy housework, for at least two weeks (walking & mild stretching are fine) ; avoid alcohol, steam baths, & saunas for several months. Above all, get plenty of rest & allow your body to spend its energy on healing. Expect by the third week, you'll look & feel much better. Most patients are back at work about ten days to two weeks after surgery. If you need it, special camouflage makeup can mask most bruising that remains. What are my risks? Complications w/ face lift surgery are infrequent & usually minor. Still, individuals vary greatly in their anatomy, their physical reactions, & their healing abilities. Dr. bootstaylor will give you clear & specific directions for creating the best possible outcome.

Forehead Lift (Brow Lift)
What is a forehead lift? A forehead lift restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. It corrects drooping brows & improves the horizontal furrows that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired. In a forehead lift, the muscles & tissues that cause the furrowing are altered to smooth the forehead, raise eyebrows & minimize frown lines. How is the procedure performed? Most forehead lifts are performed under local anesthesia, combined w/ a sedative to make you drowsy. You'll be awake but relaxed & your forehead will be insensitive to pain. Before the operation begins, your hair will be tied w/ rubber bands on either side of the incision line. Your head will not be shaved, but hair that is growing directly in front of the incision line may need to be trimmed. For most patients, a coronal incision will be used. It follows a headphone-like pattern, starting at about ear level & running across the top of the forehead & down the other side of the head. The incision is usually made well behind the hairline so that the scar won't be visible. Working through the incision, the skin of the forehead is carefully lifted so that the underlying tissue can be removed & the muscles of the forehead can be altered or released. The eyebrows may also be elevated & excess skin at the incision point will be trimmed away to help create a smoother, more youthful appearance. How quickly will i heal? Although you should be up & about in a day or two, plan on taking it easy for at least the first week after surgery. You should be able to shower & shampoo your hair within two days, or as soon as the bandage is removed. Most patients are back to work or school in a week to 10 days. Vigorous physical activity should limited for several weeks, including jogging, bending, heavy housework, sex, or any activity that increases your blood pressure. Prolonged exposure to heat or sun should be limited for several months. Most of the visible signs of surgery should fade completely within about three weeks. Minor swelling & bruising can be concealed w/ special camouflage makeup. You may feel a bit tired & let down at first, but your energy level will increase as you begin to look & feel better. What are my risks? Complications are rare & usually minor w/ a forehead lift. However, as w/ all surgeries, the possibility of complications must be considered.
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
What is eyelid surgery? Click for more before & after eyelid lift results eyelid surgery is a procedure to remove fat--usually along w/ excess skin & muscle from the upper & lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids & puffy bags below your eyes - features that make you look older & more tired than you feel, & may even interfere w/ your vision. How is the procedure performed? Eyelid surgery usually takes one to three hours & is most often performed under local anesthesia (to numb the area around your eyes) along w/ oral or intravenous sedatives. You'll be awake during the surgery, but relaxed & insensitive to pain. Typically, dr. bootstaylor makes incisions along the natural lines of your eyelids: in your upper eyelid's creases, & just below the lower lid lashes. Working through these incisions, dr. bootstaylor separates the skin from underlying fatty tissue & muscle, removes excess fat, & trims sagging skin & muscle. Once completed, the incisions are closed w/ fine sutures. How quickly will i heal? You should be able to read or watch television after two or three days. However, you can't wear contact lenses for about two weeks, & even then they may feel uncomfortable. Most people feel ready to go back to work in a week to 10 days. By then, depending on your rate of healing & your doctor's instructions, you'll probably be able to wear makeup to hide the bruising that remains. You may be sensitive to sunlight, wind, & other irritants for several weeks, so you should wear sunglasses & a special sunblock made for eyelids when you go out. Dr. bootstaylor will encourage you to keep your activities to a minimum for three to five days, & to avoid more strenuous activities for about three weeks. It's especially important to avoid activities that raise your blood pressure, including bending, lifting, & rigorous sports. You may also be told to avoid alcohol, since it causes fluid retention. What are my risks? Complications w/ eyelid surgery are infrequent & usually minor. Nevertheless, there is always a possibility of complications, including infection or a reaction to the anesthesia. You can reduce your risks by closely following dr. bootstaylor's instructions both before & after surgery.
Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
What is nose surgery? Click for more before & after rhinoplasty nose job results rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most common of all plastic surgery procedures. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose & your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve some breathing problems. How is the procedure performed? Rhinoplasty can be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the procedure & on what you & your surgeon prefer. Rhinoplasty usually takes an hour or two, though complicated procedures may take longer. During surgery the skin of the nose is separated from its supporting framework of bone & cartilage, which is then sculpted to the desired shape. The nature of the sculpting will depend on your problem & dr. bootstaylor's preferred technique. Finally, the skin is re-draped over the new framework. When the surgery is complete, a splint will be applied to help your nose maintain its new shape. Nasal packs or soft plastic splints also may be placed in your nostrils to stabilize the septum, the dividing wall between the air passages. How quickly will i heal? Most rhinoplasty patients are up & about within two days, & able to return to school or sedentary work a week or so following surgery. It will be several weeks, however, before you're entirely up to speed. Dr. bootstaylor will give you more specific guidelines for gradually resuming your normal activities. They're likely to include these suggestions: avoid strenuous activity (jogging, swimming, bending, sexual relations-any activity that increases your blood pressure) for two to three weeks. Avoid hitting or rubbing your nose, or getting it sunburned, for eight weeks. Be gentle when washing your face & hair or using cosmetics. You can wear contact lenses as soon as you feel like it, but glasses are another story. Once the splint is off, they'll have to be taped to your forehead or propped on your cheeks for another six to seven weeks, until your nose is completely healed. What are my risks? Complications w/ rhinoplasty surgery are infrequent & usually minor. Nevertheless, there is always a possibility of complications, including infection, nosebleed, or a reaction to the anesthesia. You can reduce your risks by closely following dr. bootstaylor's instructions both before & after surgery.
Facial Implants
What are facial implants? Click for more before & after chin implant results facial implants are used to improve & enhance facial contours. These implants help provide a more harmonious balance to your face & features so that you feel better about the way you look. There are many implants available, manufactured from a variety of materials. Facial implants can help strengthen a jaw line or bring the chin or cheekbones into balance w/ the rest of the face. How is the procedure performed? Dr. bootstaylor performs chin, cheek & lower jaw surgery. Each is a separate operation w/ its own parameters. Though some facial implant surgeries can be completed w/ local anesthesia, most are done under complete anesthesia. Insertion of a chin implant may take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. The implant will be inserted into a pocket over the front of the jawbone. The small incision to create the pocket & insert the implant is placed inside the mouth (along the lower lip) or in the skin just under the chin area. Cheek implant surgery usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. When cheek implants are done w/ another cosmetic procedure, such as a face lift, the implants may be inserted through the incisions made for those procedures. Otherwise, an incision is made either inside your upper lip or your lower eyelid. A pocket is then formed & an implant is inserted. Insertion of a jaw implant usually takes about one to two hours. Internal incisions are made on either side of the lower lip to provide access for creating a pocket into which the lower-jaw implant can be inserted. Dissolving sutures are used to close the incisions. How quickly will i heal? You may feel & look better in a short period of time, however, it may not be advisable to participate in certain activities--especially activity that may result in the face being jarred or bumped--for several weeks. Dr. bootstaylor will advise you on how to optimize the healing process. What are my risks? Facial implants can produce remarkable improvements. However, as w/ any surgery, problems may occur & you need to be informed about such possibilities. Dr. bootstaylor will help you understand all the risks associated w/ the procedure in which you are interested.
Ear Pinning Surgery (Otoplasty)
What is ear surgery? Click for more before & after ear pinning results ear surgery, or otoplasty, is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. For the most part, the operation is done on children between the ages of four & 14. ears are almost fully grown by age four, & the earlier the surgery, the less teasing & ridicule the child will have to endure. Ear surgery on adults is also possible, & there are generally no additional risks associated w/ ear surgery on an older patient. How is the procedure performed? If your child is young, dr. bootstaylor may recommend general anesthesia. For older children or adults, dr. bootstaylor may prefer local anesthesia, combined w/ a sedative, so you or your child will be awake but relaxed. How quickly will i heal? Ear surgery usually takes about two to three hours, although complicated procedures may take longer. The technique will depend on the problem. Dr. bootstaylor will make a small incision in the back of the ear to expose the ear cartilage. She will then sculpt the cartilage & bend it back toward the head. Non-removable stitches may be used to help maintain the new shape. In most cases, ear surgery will leave a faint scar in the back of the ear that will fade w/ time. Even when only one ear appears to protrude, surgery is usually performed on both ears for a better balance. What are my risks? Complications w/ ear surgery are infrequent & usually minor. Nevertheless, as w/ any operation, there are risks associated w/ surgery & specific complications associated w/ this procedure. A small percentage of patients may develop a blood clot on the ear. It may dissolve naturally or can be drawn out w/ a needle. Occasionally, patients develop an infection in the cartilage, which can cause scar tissue. Such infections are usually treated w/ antibiotics; rarely, surgery may be required to drain the infected area.
Lip Augmentation
What is lip augmentation? Lip augmentation creates fuller, plumper lips & reduces fine wrinkles around the mouth. Lips may be injected w/ collagen or w/ fat transferred from another site in the patient's body. Both liquid collagen & fat are absorbed & repeat treatments are necessary to maintain results. How is the procedure performed? A natural or synthetic biocompatible material, or the patient's own fat, is injected or implanted in the lips. One injection is usually sufficient to produce the desired result, which may be temporary, depending on the material used. Injections may need to be repeated periodically. What are my risks? Allergic reactions can range from prolonged redness, swelling or itching, to firmness at the injection site. Other possible complications include bleeding, lip asymmetry, & migration & extrusion of the implant. Normal swelling & bruising lasts from three days to a week.
Breast Procedures:
Dr. bootstaylor is an expert in all the latest breast surgical procedures including:
Breast Lift
What is a breast lift? For many women pregnancy, nursing & time can cause breasts to lose their shape, fullness & elasticity. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to raise & reshape sagging breasts. Some patients choose to have the size of their areola reduced & implants inserted during their mastopexy. Although breasts of any size can be lifted, typically the best results are achieved in women w/ small, sagging breasts. How is the procedure performed? A breast lift usually takes one & a half to three & a half hours & is done under general anesthesia. The most common procedure involves an anchor-shaped incision following the contour of the breast. The incision outlines the area from which breast skin will be removed & defines the new higher location for the nipple. The skin surrounding the areola is brought down & together to lift & reshape the breast. Stitches are made around the areola, in a vertical line downward from the nipple area, & along the crease of the breast. If you're having an implant inserted along w/ your breast lift, it will be placed in a pocket directly under the breast tissue, or deeper, under the muscle of the chest wall. How quickly will i heal? Healing is a gradual process. Your surgeon will give you detailed instructions for resuming your normal activities. Although you may be up & about in a day or two, don't plan on returning to work for a week or more, depending on how you feel. And avoid lifting anything over your head for three to four weeks. If you have any unusual symptoms, don't hesitate to call your surgeon. What are my risks? A breast lift is normally safe, but, as w/ any surgery, there's a possibility of complications or a reaction to the anesthesia. Bleeding & infection following a breast lift are uncommon, but they can cause scars to widen. Patients can reduce their risks by closely following dr. boottaylor's advice both before & after surgery.
Breast Reduction
What is breast reduction surgery? Breast reduction (or reduction mammaplasty in surgical jargon) is an operation designed to reduce & reshape large breasts. Many women suffer from pain & other symptoms associated w/ large breasts. Discomfort associated w/ large breasts can include chronic back, neck, & shoulder pain, as well as painful shoulder grooves from bra straps. Large breast size may also limit a woman's ability to perform daily activities & may cause significant emotional distress. By reducing breast size & restoring a more youthful breast shape, breast reduction surgery can relieve many of these symptoms. How is the procedure performed? Most breast reductions take two to four hours & are done under general anesthesia. The pedicle technique is the most common type of breast reduction surgery. Pedicle techniques raise the nipple & areola to a higher position while leaving these tissues attached to portions of the underlying breast tissue. Areas of surrounding skin & breast tissue are removed to create a smaller breast. The remaining skin & breast tissue are then fitted around the nipple in its new location. The result is usually a breast which is smaller & less "saggy" than before the operation. What are my risks? Like all other types of surgery, breast reduction is associated w/ a number of risks. Briefly, these include postoperative bleeding, infection, delayed wound healing, & abnormal scarring. In rare cases, breast or nipple skin doesn't heal & a skin graft is needed to close the wound, meaning more surgery. About ten percent of women report some loss of nipple sensation, which may be permanent.
Breast Augmentation:
Dr. bootstaylor discusses breast size solutions in these videos. Please select from the drop down window on a topic of discussion. What is a breast augmentation/breast enlargement? Breast augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to enhance the size & shape of a woman's breast. Patients choose this procedure for multiple reasons: some want to increase their size, some want to recover lost volume after weight loss or pregnancy, some want to create symmetry or lift & firm the breast, & some want to rebuild the breast after cancer. Breast augmentation is best for those who are seeking improvement, not perfection. If you're healthy & realistic in your expectations, you are likely to be a very good candidate. How is the procedure performed? Before the surgery takes place, dr. bootstaylor & the patient will discuss objectives, the best implant to use, & where to make the incision. Implants vary by filler & in size & will be based on the patient's breast anatomy, body type & desired increase in size. Incisions can be made where the chest meets the breast, around the areola, in the armpit, or in the navel. The operation is fairly straightforward: working through the incision, the patient's breast tissue will be lifted to create a pocket & then the chosen implant will be positioned within this pocket. The surgery is typically completed in one to two hours & is done under general anesthesia. How quickly will i heal? The good news is that most patients are able to return to work within a few days. But during the first 24 to 48 hours, patients typically feel sore & tired. Medication is able to control almost any discomfort during this recovery period. The stitches will be removed in a week to ten days, & within three to five weeks all swelling should be gone. What are my risks? As w/ any operation, there are risks associated w/ surgery & specific complications associated w/ this procedure. The most common problem is something called capsular contracture. It occurs if the scar or capsule around the implant begins to tighten & can be treated in several ways. Excessive bleeding, swelling, & infection are possible, but certainly not likely. The majority of my patients do not experience these or any other complications. And these & any other possible risks will be fully discussed prior to surgery.
Breast Reconstruction:
What is breast reconstruction surgery? Reconstruction of a breast that's been removed due to cancer or another disease is one of the most rewarding surgical procedures available today. New medical techniques & devices have made it possible for surgeons to create a breast that can come impressively close in form & appearance to a natural breast. Frequently, reconstruction is possible immediately following breast removal (mastectomy) , so the patient wakes up w/ a breast mound already in place, having been spared the experience of seeing herself w/ no breast at all. How is the procedure performed? Most breast reconstruction involves a series of procedures that occur over time. The initial reconstructive operation is usually the most complex. Follow-up surgery may be required to reconstruct the areola & many surgeons recommend an additional operation to enlarge, reduce, or lift the natural breast to match the reconstructed breast. The most common technique in breast reconstruction surgery combines skin expansion & subsequent insertion of an implant. Following a mastectomy, dr. bootstaylor will insert tiny valve mechanism that expands under your skin & chest muscle. When the skin has stretched enough, the expander may be removed in a second operation & a more permanent implant will be inserted. Some expanders are left in place as the final implant. How quickly will i heal? You're likely to feel tired & sore for a week or two after reconstruction, but medication can control most discomfort. Depending on the extent of your surgery, you'll probably be released from the hospital in two to five days. Many reconstruction options require a surgical drain to remove excess fluids from surgical sites immediately following the operation, but these are removed within the first week or two after surgery. Most stitches are removed in a week to 10 days. It may take you up to six weeks to recover from a combined mastectomy & reconstruction or from a flap reconstruction alone. Follow your surgeon's advice on when to begin normal activities. You'll want to refrain from any overhead lifting, strenuous sports, & sexual activity for three to six weeks following reconstruction. What are my risks? Although they're relatively uncommon, the usual problems such as bleeding, fluid collection, excessive scar tissue, or difficulties w/ anesthesia can occur. If an implant is used, there is a remote possibility that an infection will develop, usually within the first two weeks following surgery. In some of these cases, the implant may need to be removed for several months until the infection clears. A new implant can later be inserted. The most common problem, capsular contracture, occurs if the scar or capsule around the implant begins to tighten. Capsular contracture can be treated in several ways, & sometimes requires either removal or "scoring" of the scar tissue, or perhaps removal or replacement of the implant.
Male Breast Reduction
What is male breast reduction surgery? The medical term gynecomastia comes from the greek words for "women-like breasts. " Surprisingly, this rarely talked about condition affects 40 to 60 percent of men. It may affect one or both breasts & in the majority of cases there's no known cause. Breast-reduction surgery for men removes fat & or glandular tissue from the breasts, & in extreme cases removes excess skin, creating a chest that's flatter, firmer, & more contoured. How is the procedure performed? Surgery for gynecomastia is most often performed as an outpatient procedure. The surgery itself usually takes about an hour & a half to complete & is typically performed under general, or in some cases, under local anesthesia plus sedation. If the cause of the breast enlargement is excess glandular tissue, it will be cut out. An incision is made in an inconspicuous location--either on the edge of the areola or in the under arm area. Working through the incision, the surgeon cuts away the excess glandular tissue, fat & skin from around the areola & from the sides & bottom of the breast. If the cause of the breast enlargement is excessive fatty tissue, liposuction will be used to remove the excess fat. A small incision, less than a half-inch in length, is made around the edge of the areola--the dark skin that surrounds the nipple. (The incision may also be placed in the underarm area. ) A slim hollow tube is then inserted into the incision to break up the fat & suction it out. Patients will generally feel no pain. How quickly will i heal? You'll be encouraged to walk around on the day of surgery & can return to work when you feel well enough--which could be as early as a day or two after surgery. Most likely you'll feel some discomfort for a few days after surgery but prescribed medications can control your discomfort. Any stitches will generally be removed about one to two weeks following the procedure. Most of your swelling will dissipate in the first few weeks, it may be three months or more before the final results of your surgery are apparent. What are my risks? When male breast-reduction surgery is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications are infrequent & usually minor. But as w/ any & all surgeries, there are risks. These include infection, skin injury, excessive bleeding, adverse reaction to anesthesia, & excessive fluid loss or accumulation. The procedure may also result in noticeable scars, permanent pigment changes in the breast area, or slightly mismatched breasts or nipples. If asymmetry is significant, a second procedure may be performed to remove additional tissue.

Abdominoplasty Tummy Tuck Procedure
What is a tummy tuck? Abdominoplasty, known more commonly as a "tummy tuck," is a major surgical procedure to remove excess skin & fat from the middle & lower abdomen & to tighten the muscles of your abdominal wall. By tightening your muscles & narrowing your waist, this procedure can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen. How is the procedure performed? A complete abdominoplasty usually takes two to five hours & can be done under general or local anesthesia. Typically the surgeon will make hipbone-to-hipbone cut just above the pubic area. A smaller second incision is made to free the navel from surrounding tissue. Next, the surgeon separates the skin from the abdominal wall & lifts a large skin flap to tighten the vertical abdominal muscles & create a firmer abdominal wall & narrower waistline. The extra skin is removed & a new hole is cut for your navel, which is then stitched in place. Partial abdominoplasty takes less time, typically an hour or two. In partial abdominoplasty, the skin is separated only between the cut line & the navel (not all the way up the abdominal wall) & this skin flap is stretched down, the excess is removed, & the flap is stitched back into place. General or local anesthesia will be used, depending on the choice of dr. bootstaylor. How quickly will i heal? For the first few days, your abdomen will probably be swollen & you're likely to feel some pain & discomfort which can be controlled by medication. Surface stitches will be removed in five to seven days, & deeper sutures will come out in two to three weeks. It may take you weeks or months to feel like completely healed. The better your physical condition, the faster you're likely to heal. Exersize during the healing period will help you recover faster. What are my risks? Thousands of abdominoplasties are performed successfully each year. When done by a qualified plastic surgeon trained in body contouring, the results are typically quite positive. Nevertheless, there are always risks associated w/ surgery & specific complications associated w/ this procedure. Post-operative complications such as infection & blood clots are rare, but can occur. Moving around as soon after the surgery as possible will minimize the risk of clotting. Abdominoplasty, whether partial or complete, produces excellent results for patients w/ weakened abdominal muscles or excess skin. And in most cases, the results are long lasting, if you follow a balanced diet & exersize regularly.
Fat Transfer to the Buttock, Face or Acquired Deformity: Brazilian Buttock Lift, Brazilian Buttock Augmentation
The brazilian buttock lift (bbl) is a procedure that allows a fat transfer from unwanted areas in the body to the buttock aesthetic unit. Fat transfer to key areas of the buttock can produce a more shapely physique & an overall more balanced look to your body. Candidates: may vary depending on their age, gender, skin laxity & desired endpoints for shape & size. Procedure: the procedure is performed in an outpatient setting in an accredited facility. Fat is removed from unwanted area, processed & then introduced into varying layers of the buttocks to produce a more pleasing contour. Fat grafting access sites on the buttocks are placed in discrete locations. Recuperation: patient is restricted from pressure on the transfer site for at least 2 week. Long-term result: fat transferred commonly integrates into surrounding tissue, grows & can produce both long-lasting & natural-looking results complications: the most common undesirable problems are fat reabsorption which is anticipated by the plastic surgeon w/ the over- filling of the buttock area at the time of surgery. Minor additional touchups can be performed to further augment the buttock aesthetic unit if the patient desires. Other possible but uncommon complications of fat grafting are bruising, skin discoloration & abscess formation.
Thigh Lift
What is a thigh lift? If you have loose saggy skin on your thighs either from weight loss or simply from gravity's constant pull, the surgical procedure known as thighplasty can help firm & tone creating a more attractive & youthful appearance how is the procedure performed? Thighplasty is a rather extensive form of plastic surgery, so it is usually performed in an accredited surgery center or hospital. The operation typically requires two to four hours to complete. Typically, general anesthesia is used. Dr. bootstaylor will make a small incision along the upper thigh, stretches the skin, & reattaches it. The incisions are inconspicuous, located in the groin area w/ scars that are easily hidden by a bathing suit. How quickly will i heal? You will be able to resume many activities within the first week following the thighplasty. Most activities will be accessible by at least three weeks after the operation. Although you will be up & about, you should expect to take about a week off from work. What are my risks? As w/ any surgery there are risks involved: excessive bleeding, clotting can occur.
Liposuction
What is liposuction? Liposuction is a procedure that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks & neck. During the past decade, liposuction has benefited from several new refinements. Today, a number of new techniques, including ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (ual) , the tumescent technique, & the super-wet technique, are helping many plastic surgeons to provide patients w/ more precise results & quicker recovery. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting & exersize, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don't respond to traditional weight-loss methods. How is the procedure performed? There are several liposuction techniques that can make the procedure easier & enhance the outcome. The time required to perform liposuction will vary, depending on the size of the area, the amount of fat being removed, the type of anesthesia & the technique used. Liposuction removes localized deposits of fat to re-contour one or more areas of the body. Through a tiny incision, a narrow tube is inserted & used to vacuum the fat layer that lies deep beneath the skin. The tube is moved through the fat layer, breaking up fat cells & suctioning them out. If many sites are being treated, your surgeon will then move on to the next area, working to keep the incisions as inconspicuous as possible. How quickly will i heal? Don't expect to look or feel great right after surgery. Even though the newer techniques reduce some post-operative discomforts, you may still experience some pain, burning, swelling, bleeding & temporary numbness. Pain can be controlled w/ medications prescribed by dr. bootstaylor, though you may still feel stiff & sore for a few days. Healing is a gradual process. You'll be encouraged to start walking as soon as possible to reduce swelling & help prevent blood clots. You'll begin to feel better after about a week or two & you should be back at work within a few days following your surgery. The stitches are removed or dissolve within the first week to 10 days. What are my risks? Though liposuction is normally safe, complications can & do occur. Risks increase if a greater number of areas are treated at the same time, or if the operative sites are larger in size. Removal of a large amount of fat & fluid may require longer operating times than may be required for smaller operations.
Armlift
What is an upper arm lift? Over time the skin changes in four ways: it loses thickness, loses elasticity, loses adherence to the underlying tissue, & is affected by gravity. One area where these changes are especially apparent is the upper arm. An arm lift--or --can lift & tighten up loose skin in the upper arms, resulting in a firmer, more youthful contour. How is the procedure performed? An arm lift usually takes about two hours. Dr. bootstaylor begins by marking the area of excess skin. The anesthesia is administered. (Dr. bootstaylor may offer you the choice between using a local or general anesthetic; however, most patients are most comfortable w/ a general anesthetic for this procedure. ) Incisions are made on the inner & under surface of the arm. The surgical opening may run from the armpit to as low as the elbow. While the excess skin & fat is removed, the remaining skin is stretched & sutured into place. How quickly will i heal? Though you'll feel groggy immediately after the procedure, your recovery should be quick. Most patients go home the same day. The recovery period after an arm lift generally lasts one to two weeks. You'll probably be able to return to work in a week, & resume exersize within two weeks. Strenuous workouts & contact sports can be engaged in after about four weeks. What are my risks? The most common risks include, but are not limited to, a reaction to the anesthesia, excessive bleeding, infection, visible scarring, possible asymmetry or irregularities, & possible changes in nerve sensation.
Post-Bariatric Body Contouring:
What is body contouring after massive weight loss? Bariatric surgery & gastric bypass surgery are surging in popularity. With massive weight loss in a short time, skin often does not shrink well. Body contouring plastic surgery can help deal w/ this extra skin & give such individuals a new image after losing weight. How is the procedure performed? Body contouring after massive weight loss typically involves multiple procedures. These procedures can include: breast augmentation, breast lift, male breast reduction, tummy tuck, forehead lift, face lift. As each patient will have a unique set of needs, patients seeking body contouring after massive weight loss will have a comprehensive consultation w/ dr. bootstaylor. In the consultation options, likely results, risks & recovery will be thoroughly discussed. How quickly will i heal? Your recovery will depend entirely on the nature of your selected surgeries. As body contouring incorporates multiple procedures, recovery is likely to progress over a longer period of time. What are my risks? As w/ any surgery, risk is involved. Risks include bleeding, infection, excessive fluid loss leading to shock, fluid accumulation, injury to the skin, baggy or rippled skin, asymmetry, pigmentation changes, blood clots, fat embolism & organ perforation. Major complications are rare.
