For paintings, I enjoyed my visit to "Kunsthistorisches Museum"=lots of paintings from 15th century and later (even the building itself is quite impressive) - Karine (Belgium)
I recommend the tour through the opera - goes for about 45 minutes - thus doable. It's quite interesting to see the backstage area which is three times as large as the opera guest area...
Take a roundtrip with busline 106 - bus departs every half hour from main gate and is covered by Wiener Linien ticket.
Ask for CITY SPOTS, the annotated City Map of Vienna (free!). If you like HAUS DES MEERES, then you may like the other recommendations as well.
Simply a must on a beautiful spring/summer day for visitors aswell as locals! Best beer in Vienna and delicious food. As tourist attraction pretty expensive though...
The Ernst Happel Stadium is the largest stadium in Austria. The stadium was host to seven games in UEFA Euro 2008, including the final which saw Spain triumph over Germany.
