The architecture and the gardens at the villa are way more interesting than the art itself. Go outside and enjoy. (Though maybe I've been spoiled with the art available in New York and Paris. )
One of the delights of Los Angeles. Excellent tours, exhibits & docents. Make parkingreservation on the web site. The museum is free, they chg for parking. Lunch avail in the indoor/outdoor cafe.
Replica of a Roman villa, featuring Greek Roman and other Mediterranean antiquities. The villa itself is a bit cheesy but the exhibits are great and the modern architecture that surrounds it is great
No dejes de visitarla si pasas por Malibú. Una impresionante colección de piezas de arte en un entorno que te transporta a otro lugar en otro tiempo. La entrada es gratuita, pero hay que reservar.
Beautiful place with stunning artwork & antiques. The architecture is amazing. So much to see & take in so allow yourself hours. Guides / staff are VERY good.
Monday’s are less busy. The admission is free, make sure you make a reservation. Stunning place, not so huge, a dream villa 😉. Food in a cafe was great!
I love taking some quiet time in the reading room looking out over the Roman gardens. The books are always fascinating and can delve you into the history of the culture.

Tickets are free as long as you book online in advance (parking is $15). Great place for a fun afternoon date - make a picnic out of the gardens, then go to Dukes of Malibu for a dessert.
Amazing museum in Malibu! The building is based on the layout for an ancient Roman villa, and there are beautiful gardens and fountains around the property.
Collection is good but not stellar, though there are a few stand outs like the "Victorious Youth" and the gold wreath, but the setting is a delight. Take you time & enjoy the educational materials.
Smaller than the Los Angeles Getty so you can see everything in one day. Beautiful gardens, great food at the cafe, all around a lovely place to spend the day.
Great self guided audio tour for kids. Can use your own phone and headphones or borrow an iPod. Our 7 year old was a bit scared at the end, but it’s well done.
Modeled after Julius Caesar's father-in-law's villa in southern Italy, the Getty Villa provides a stunning space for the display of Greek, Roman, and Etruscan art & sculpture.
If you end up arriving at the gate without a reservation, call them (310.440.7300) and they'll give you a ticket number in less than a minute, which you'll be able to provide it in time to security.
Look up! Look down! Look at all the stunning gardens! There are patterns and interesting things to see literally everywhere here, the art itself isn't the only thing to not miss!
Built by oil tycoon as a museum to house his ancient collections, the building is the only recreation of a Roman patricianvilla in the US and is modeled after the Villa of the Papyri at Herculaneum.
The Getty Villa in Malibu is an educational center and museum dedicated to the study of the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. Admire the views, art, and architecture?
This magnificent Malibu property includes an educational center and museum dedicated to the study of the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome and Etruria.
Although most of the art has moved to the Frank Gehry-designed Getty Center, the original site—J. Paul Getty's former villa—still houses Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquities.
When you make a ticket reservation you're allotted 1 hour from your reservation time to arrive after your appointment. Also the cafe closes at 4p on Saturday.
